Olga Katic
Olga Katic grew up mushroom hunting with her family in Bosnia and Herzegovina. While her parents worked, Olga and her sister spent their days with their grandmother, freely exploring the woods, gathering wild foods, and occasionally being chased by the family rooster.
They often collected boletes, milk caps, and other wild mushrooms, then brought them home for their grandfather to inspect. He removed anything he considered inedible, and the rest was cooked on the woodstove and shared with the family. These early experiences created Olga’s lifelong connection to fungi and the natural world.
Today, Olga is the owner of Mushroom Mountain, where she leads a dedicated team producing mushroom spawn for a wide range of edible and medicinal species. The company also creates medicinal mushroom extracts and mushroom-infused honeys under the MycoMatrix™ brand.
Olga oversees Mushroom Mountain’s Wild Mushroom Food Safety Certification Program, which trains participants in the safe identification, handling, and sale of wild-foraged mushrooms. The program has been accepted by health departments in multiple states.
In her free time, Olga enjoys exploring the woods, gathering mushrooms and wild plants, and photographing the many wonders she finds in nature.
